Elizabeth Pyle

Elizabeth Pyle focuses her practice on land use, zoning and environmental law. She specializes in advising public and private clients on state and local wetlands protection laws, and in enforcing laws that protect natural resources. She regularly appears before zoning boards and conservation commissions, and in the state’s trial courts.

In 2016, Elizabeth and her colleagues successfully defended the decision of the Dighton Conservation Commission to deny approval of a Chapter 40B project that would have harmed a site containing sensitive wetlands, including five certified vernal pools. In 2016 and 2018, Elizabeth successfully opposed the issuance of wetland permits for an oversized residential development on Spy Pond in Arlington.

Elizabeth graduated from Duke University (1997) and Boston College Law School (2000). Before joining Hill Law, Elizabeth was an Assistant District Attorney in Hampden County, and practiced environmental and land use law at Boston-area firms Bernstein, Cushner & Kimmel, P.C. and Anderson & Kreiger LLP. Elizabeth also served as Chair of the Somerville Conservation Commission for ten years, and is currently an elected Member of Town Meeting in Arlington. From 2016–2019, Elizabeth was an appointed member of the Town of Arlington’s Residential Zoning Study Group, which recommended changes to Arlington’s Zoning Bylaw to address neighborhood impacts caused by new residential construction.
